This is a composition work in progress. I still need to polish some transitions etc. However, this is now quite representative sample about how my sketched metal songs usually sound before I do any recordings. In its own aesthetic it kinda sounds like SNES/N64 era video game music, I guess. After some processing I use some sounds (mainly drums) in the end recording as well. With electronic music I use more same sounds in both composition phase and end products, but different genres require different workflows.
With electronic stuff you can always program stuff with MIDI but metal usually requires at least some live recorded instruments like “bass guitar” in my case. That’s why I need to sketch my metal songs with placeholder MIDI sounds. Since I use certain MIDI sequencers for Linux (MusE and Rosegarden) with some custom soundfonts, it might sound a bit different compared to more common tools doing the same thing like Guitar Pro and such. It might not be the recommended way to do sketching with a separate sequencer software and record final song with a separate DAW but that’s how Ae roll…
My actual metal EP (not containing this song) is about to release this month in Bandcamp and later elsewhere. It will contain three alternative mixes, including mine. Stay tuned or something.
